OT Run 2.0 2016 was held on 26th November 2016 in conjunction with World Occupational Therapy Day 2016 organized by the Occupational Student Association (OTSA) UiTM and Malaysian Occupational Therapy Association (OT Malaysia) kicked off in grand fashion with about 550 people gathering here in Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Selangor Puncak Alam Campus as early as 6am. This program bring into the race in 10km, 5km and Fun Run with the aims of promoting the field of occupational therapy services to communities in Malaysia about the role and services offered in hospitals, private hospitals, old people’s homes, rehabilitation centers in the community, schools and private rehabilitation centres.
The idea of this annual programme is to get all occupational therapist members and committee to be involved in sports, become fit and turn into a way of life. In fact, events like this will definitely strengthen the ties between members of occupational therapy an also can publicize the public and thus increase their awareness of the existence and importance of rehabilitation services in Malaysia.
Some runners were pleased to participate in this race though did not get any prizes and they also hope that events like this will still continue. OT Run 2.0 2016 adviser, Dr Ahmad Zamir Che Daud (PhD in OT) said he was confident that events like this can be a platform for enhancing cooperation and collaboration between the institutions that offer occupational therapy courses and the departments and units of occupational therapy all over Malaysia.
Not only the local residents from all walks of life, the alumni of occupational therapy and occupational therapy students from various institutions such as the College of Allied Health Sciences Sungai Buloh (KSKB), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Pusrawi Colleges and Perdana University also geared in sportswear excited to participate in this program on that day.
